Have You Seen Any Angels Lately?

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy Luke 2:10

Have you seen any angels around you lately, and not the kind that are hanging on your Christmas tree or mantel? Sure, we all have! Who has brought you the good news of Christ’s birth lately? Yes, that was an angel of the Lord! Who has touched you with a kind word, a holy hug, and a word of comfort? Right again. It’s an angel of the Lord!

And who have you supported with a caring gesture and helpful hand recently? Who have you gone out of your way to help and listen to when a friend has been hit by illness? Just look in the mirror – Yes, there you are, as the Lord’s angel of love and peace!

A little child was selected to be the angel in the church’s Christmas worship service. She was so proud and excited! She studied and studied the words of St. Luke 2:10, wanting to get every word exactly correct. When the time came to bring the “Good News” to the congregation, she arose, started to wiggle her wings, looked out into the congregation ….and forgot the words!

However, even though she couldn’t remember the words, she did remember the message! As she boldly looked into the crowd, she shouted out, “Boy, do I have news for you!”

That is what angels do, and that is what we do as well as we show and tell the story of Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection to those around us, in word and deed! We too forget the words at times. We too often forget to say and do Christ’s love to and with others.

And the Lord is always there to pick us up, get our “wings” back on straight, and then enables us to do and tell the story of Christ’s birthday, death and resurrection to those around us!

Prayer
Lord, thanks for making us Your band of angels, the Church. Keep us aware of the needs and hurts of those around us so we can reach out with comfort, hope, and love to the lost, the least, and the lonely. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
